It’s already Day 8 of the Just For Today Challenge - 31 Days To A Better You. Where did the time go? I’m interested in hearing how you are doing so far with the Challenge. Are the tasks too easy? Too hard?

Today’s Challenge involves phoning someone you haven’t heard from in a while. Or you can phone your best friend. It doesn’t matter about the length of the call, either. Just pick up the phone and talk to a friend.

It’s so easy to neglect the important relationships in our lives and take people for granted. One thing that frequently falls by the wayside in our busy lives is our friendships with other people. We get so wrapped up in our busy lives and sometimes it feels like forever since we connected with our friends. Don’t let that happen by phoning a friend today.

The only way to have a friend is to be one. . . A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him I may think aloud.  – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Call your friend and tell them that you were thinking of them and wanted to see how they were doing. Maybe your friend has been waiting for you to call them or they have been busy in their lives. It doesn’t matter that you are the one always making the call, either. Someone has to be first and take the lead.

Call them on the phone and catch up on what’s been happening in each other’s lives. A great way is to keep friendships alive is by scheduling something with that person and having recurring events with them. See what time works best for them and schedule something that both of you want to do. Feed that friendship regularly and don’t let it die.

And, no, emailing doesn’t count. You have to call them and speak to them on the phone and have an actual conversation. Just like in the olden days :-) So, no Tweeting, Facebooking, or texting, either. It has to be a real phone conversation with a real person on the other end of the line.

How did you feel when after you called your friend? Did you feel good talking to someone who uplifts you? Was it great catching up on each others’ lives? Let the rest of us know how you did in completing this task by leaving a comment below.

Tomorrow’s Challenge will be something harder for you to do. But it’s a very important Challenge, so remember to come back to see what I have in store for you.
