Welcome to Day 19 of the Just For Today Challenge - 31 Days To A Better You. Only 11 more days to go. How are we doing so far? Are you noticing any changes in your life? Hopefully, what we have done so far has affected you for the better.

Today’s Challenge is a very important one. Please do this.
The Challenge today is to take care of your health, in whatever format that you can. If that means making a doctor’s appointment, do that. If that means taking a spa day because you need a mental health day and some pampering, do that. If you need to buy an electric toothbrush (I can’t live without mine), then go and buy one. Go for a long walk to get some exercise in. Do you need to buy a foot or back massager to relieve some pain? Just do something/anything today for yourself and your health.
Why not make an appointment with those health care professionals that you haven’t seen in a while. I’m not a doctor, and there’s plenty of resources out there for health care. I just think it’s really important topic and is something that we should all do if only Just For Today.
I know how easy it is to make excuses for not taking care of your health, but is anything really more important? If you don’t have your health, then nothing else matters. You won’t be able to enjoy the money you worked for or enjoy your relationships if you are dead. Think about that when you tell me that you can’t go see a doctor because it costs money.
I’m writing this in Canada where we enjoy one of the best universal healthcare systems in the world, but not everything is free here. Yes, it’s universal in that anyone can go to the emergency room and get looked after, for free. We can also go to any doctor (that is taking new patients) for free or go to any walk-in clinic anywhere in the country. Some things we do have to pay for though.
Getting your eyes checked by an optometrist will cost around $75. How important is sight? Pretty darn important, don’t you think?
Seeing the dermatologist is free, unless they have to remove a mole, which will cost you. But, it’s very important to get checked out for any skin discolourations or moles that may have as skin cancer, if not caught early, is life-threatening.
When’s the last time you had your teeth cleaned? Did you know that you should be going every 9-12 months? If you’re not covered by insurance, it costs around $125. Aren’t your teeth worth that? What’s worst, spending roughly $125 a year for a dental cleaning or having all your teeth pulled one by one? Maybe you think people with missing teeth are attractive and you want to save your money. What do you think is better for your health, not to mention your self-esteem?
If you haven’t been to a doctor in a while, make the appointment for your yearly physical. You could use 2010 as a benchmark for your health and cut down on future costs. Think of it as preventative maintenance for you body. Hopefully, you do not have an underlying condition which isn’t showing any symptoms (yet). It’s better to find out now and face your fears, rather than ignoring the situation by hiding your head in the sand and thinking the worst.
You know that taking no action, is an action. You will have to live (or not) with the consequences.
Be proactive with your health. We all have issues, but if you are overweight, smoke, do drugs, or drink excessively, it’s all a matter of time before it catches up with you. We like to think that we are invincible, but we’re not. I’m sure that we all have that fallacy of living forever. With modern medicine and the advances in healthcare being what they are, it may seem like forever when you have lost your faculties and are in poor health when you get older. Who wants to be that old lady/man in the senior home who’s just waiting to die because their enjoyment of life is nil due to their poor health? I don’t, that’s for sure.
Are you with me? What are you going to do today for your health? Let us know by leaving a comment. Thanks!

Great idea Karen (considerably less grumbling today
)! I’m going to sit and make a list of everything that bothers me about my health etc and make a plan to sort it.
*salutes* As you were.

Yes! Be proactive and I know that it’s scary, but it’s better to face the fear than run away from it, especially when it comes to our health. Hopefully, we will get the “You’re in perfect health” speech
Thanks,
Karen
Lol, lets hope so

I struggle to put my health first when I’m trying to build up my blog and work on a business plan. However, I also realize that without health, those things won’t be worth much.
Hi Gordie,
No they won’t. And, it’s so easy to put everything ahead of ourselves since we are so busy. Too busy sometimes to stop and think of what’s important in our lives away from the computer. It’s very easy to say that you will get around to it someday, but that day looms farther and farther into the future and never seems to arrive.
Hence, the Challenge today – do what you need to do to honour yourself and your health today. Take the time to get what you need to checked out.
Thanks,
Karen
I’m going to be good to my health by going to bed before midnight, just for today
Here in the UK it seems that we have a health system similar to that in Canda. I’m not overdue for docs room therefore. I am however overdue some sleep!!

I agree.
Thanks, James.
Good health, is good energy and energy is the ability to do work. I toss on the mp3 player with some good biz/self-help style listening material and go for a refreshing walk just about every day. Everything just becomes less rusty.
