Welcome to the 23rd day of the Just For Today Challenge – 31 Days To A Better You.
Today’s Challenge will involve your creative side. Do something, anything, to get your creative juices flowing and have fun while you’re doing it. Don’t take life so seriously. It’s meant to be enjoyed and not endured. So have some fun today!
Remember when we were children in art class? Remember making beautiful (and I use that term loosely) works of art just by using our hands and some paint? I have such fond memories of finger painting when I was a child. I would sit for hours and draw such wondrous things on reams of paper. It kept me occupied for quite a while my Mom was busy with the rest of the family.
My future starts when I wake up every morning… Every day I find something creative to do with my life. – Miles Davis
When we grow up, unless you are an Artist, we tend to forget that we have a creative side. Everyone has a creative side, some people are just more in touch with it and are able to indulge it more than others.
It’s very easy for long stretches of time to go by where we’ve lost that childhood innocence of using some macaroni and glue to make a wonderful piece of art that we were proud to give to our parents. I’m sure that my Mom still has that ashtray that I made in 3rd grade out of clay and which I painted in my favourite colours. It was so easy back then to be creative - we didn’t have to think and analyze and be scared of being judged. We just had fun and created things that brought us joy.
Well, today you get to do that again
There is no way around it. You absolutely must have fun. Without fun, there is no enthusiasm. Without enthusiasm, there is no energy. Without energy, there are only shades of gray. – Doug Hall
Let’s have a rainbow day today, instead of a “shade of gray“.
Stuck for some ideas of how you can be creative today? Here are some ways that I thought of that would be fun and creative:
- Grab some crayons and sit with your children and colour in their colouring books.
- Go out and make an angel in the snow, or make a snow man. Make the best darn snowman on the block!
- Try finger painting a picture of something that doesn’t exist. Get your fingers full of gooey paint and paint something.
- Doodle spontaneously on whatever comes to your mind. Don’t think, just draw.
- Draw or sketch something fantastical, mythical and wonderful.
- Cook something in the kitchen without a recipe and something that you’ve never tried making before. Just wing it and see what kind of culinary delight you can come up with. Baking is great for this.
- Start singing and making up the words as you go along. Try to rap. I dare you
- Create a new dance and dance it like no one is watching you
- Take a picture and upload it into Photoshop or Paint and just play with it. See what kind of wacky fun you can have fooling around with the various tools and techniques.
- While you’re in Photoshop or other painting program, design something new.
- Start scrapbooking (highly addictive and you can even do it online).
- Paint a watercolour picture of something that inspires you.
- Whittle a bar of soap.
- Make a macaroni and glue picture and then display it proudly on your wall. Tell everyone who comes to your home that you made it!
- Create a paper mache masterpiece.
- Cut out some magazine pictures and make a collage of things that inspire you.
- Or how about, write a new blog post! But, don’t write something you normally would write anyways. That’s too much like work. Have fun with a new topic. Be zany. Be creative!
The idea is to have fun Just For Today and to remember the simple joys of life – like when we were kids we didn’t care what that our clothes got dirty with paint or that our pictures turned out kind of funny – Mom still stuck them up on the fridge and told us how proud she was of us. We can be proud of ourselves for whatever we have created today. We can have fun today!
Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. – Franklin D. Roosevelt
Try being creative today. Share with us what masterpiece you had fun creating today by leaving a comment. Thanks!

Done!
Written two good guest posts this morning. Feeling much better for it to – letting my logical brain rest and firing up my creative brain for the first time for a week or so.
Hi Ben,
You got that out of the way early. Glad to hear that you are following the Challenges and that you are feeling much better for it.
Way to go!
Thanks,
Karen
Ooooo… art stuff…. I could SO cheat and just do what I do normally, but instead I’ll dance around like an idiot for a while. Sounds fun

Hey Heather,
I hope you had fun dancing around like an idiot
Definitely did Karen

Hi Karen,

Great challenge. By funny coincidence it links in with a post I’m in the middle of writing about stuff we can learn from children. We took the children to the country park today and had a great time mucking about, peeping through stone holes and splashing stones in puddles. Not really creative as such but very in touch with our child like sides

Sounds like the entire family had a great fun day, today, Eleanor. Glad to hear it. Let us know how your post turns out.
Karen
I wish I could post photos lol! I have to be creative with a 2 year old but I made Daddy do this challenge. Quite a rockin snowman was built
I will create something of my OWN later today. It has been a while since I have done something creative for myself.
Thanks Karen. Really loving your suggestions and challenges so far! Keep it up!
Trace
Wasn’t it crazy how much new snow we have, Trace? It’s so slushy out there. I used to love the nice, sticky snow (so much easier to make snowballs with), but not I find it very hard to walk in. I’m glad that the weather has warmed up a bit though
Yes, that’s the point – do something for yourself and have fun while doing it.
Thanks so much
Karen
I love singing especially while driving in the car but I know I can’t carry a note if I tried.
It doesn’t stop me from doing it whenever I’m with friends or even alone so I always have fun when driving and listening to music.

I’m tone deaf, so I can totally relate, Eric. I can’t carry a tune, either.
You know, a couple of my friends bought a karaoke machine and I have so much fun “singing” into it. You should try it sometimes
Thanks,
Karen
I used to have a karaoke machine actually. Got it a few Christmases ago before my grandmother passed away.
I was so embarrassed when singing into it because I couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it! lol
Either way though, it was fun!

Eric´s last blog ..The Way I Blog With Ease
It is a lot of fun! I didn’t expect it to be but when you have a group of friends at someone’s house and everyone is singing (on tune or not), it’s a fun time.
Thanks,
Karen
Great challenge Karen. I should take some time to design something in PSP.
Welcome Rose,
Glad that you are enjoying today’s Challenge. Yes, take some time to yourself to have some fun today. Get those creative juices flowing
Thanks,
Karen
