What Dream Can You Cross Off Your Life List?

The Thinker in plasterI bought a stature of Rodin’s The Thinker when I was a teenager. It’s just a cheap plaster of Paris statue, but I love it. It sit in a place of honour in my home and I find that I look at it all the time.

Every city and apartment that I move to, I always ensure that this statue is placed just right.

I’ve had it for more than 20+ years and it’s one of my treasures.

I look at it and it makes me think. Appropriate, since it appears to be a man deep in thought :-)

Can you just imagine my feeling then being in Paris to see the actual statue?

I went to Paris last year with a friend and besides seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre and going up the Eiffel Tower, the one thing I am so happy to do was to visit the Musee Rodin in Paris.Karen in front of The Thinker in Paris

I had no idea that Rodin did so many beautiful statues.

The grounds of the museum were absolutely astounding. If you get to Paris, you should definitely go.

You would expect that the statues would be houses inside the actual building, but no. All the bronze statues were outside, while inside the building were the marble, paintings and other works.

The Thinker (French Le Penseur) and other very famous statues were scattered throughout the grounds outside the museum building.

It felt amazing to see something that you have in your home, that you look at almost daily, and then see the actual statue. The Thinker in bronze

I’m so glad that I was able to complete one of my life-long dreams.

My question to you is: What Dream Can You Cross Off Your Life List?

Cliché, but I have a bucket list. And I’ve crossed off many dreams over the last decade or so. And many more to go.

That’s wonderful, Hal. As you cross things off, I hope you are also adding new dreams to your list?

Hi Moon,

Without our dreams, where would we be? Especially on Monday mornings when we are dreading another 5 days at the office before the weekend :-)

You should make a plan and just do it! it’s a beautiful city.

Nice! That trip to Paris sounds like a once in a lifetime experience.

I have a huge list of dreams that I am working towards but I also some stuff I have accomplished that I can cross off your list.

One of my top to-do’s – Spend an entire summer with my wife and boys driving across Canada and stopping to camp at all the scenic and adventurous destinations.

One of my top dreams I have crossed off – Walking away from my corporate position to become an entrepreneur. Greatest feeling of freedom and liberation (and fear of course) I have ever experienced .

Hi Justin,

It really was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and was my first time in Europe, too. We had a great time spending 10 days in Rome and 5 days in Paris. What a wonderful first time across the pond :-)

I would love to do a coast-to-coast road trip across Canada, too. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? It would need a lot of vacation time off though.

Good for you for deciding to become an entrepreneur and then following through with it. Success often goes to those brave enough to go for it.

Thanks for stopping by,
Karen

Karen,

That’s so cool that you were able to see something that you look at in your house every single day. That would be killer!

I honestly don’t have too many dreams or goals right now except to find happiness but I’m in a place in my life where I’m very confused and not sure which direction to take.

I do want to make money online and have the freedom to live how I desire so I am working on that (at least three times a week!) :)

Hi Eric,

Success comes at its own time, even though we are so impatient for it sometimes. A friend said to me just this morning, to not be stressed out about current circumstances and to live in the now. It’s hard since I have such a Type-A personality, but I’m trying to see how truly great I currently have it. Maybe if you were to focus on what is going well (something thas to be) in your life, rather than the negative *stuff* then that would help.

Best of luck. You will get there as you have a lot to offer.

Thanks Karen for the reply.

Yes, living in the now is better than trying to live by the future or the past. Much easier said that done but definitely necessary.

Took my wife to NYC to see the museums and ground zero. It just makes me want to go back. Rome is next.

Hi Ralph,

I’ve been to NYC a couple of times to walk around, visit the museums, do some shopping, go up the Empire State Building and to see ground zero as well. New York is a great city to visit.

I also went to Rome last year (10 days in Rome and 5 days in Paris) and had a wonderful time. Oh, to see the Roman ruins in person and to see things you only see in books or on TV. What a trip! If you go to Rome, try to go to Florence to see the orignal David by Michelangelo – absolutely stunning. We did a side trip to Florence, Venice and Pisa and I think I like Florence almost as much as Rome. Wonderful cities that everyone should see once in their lifetimes. Very romantic, too :-)

That’s wonderful that you are making your dream of visiting Rome a reality. You only live once :-)

Thanks,
Karen

I have a Buddha status that is always near by me and even though its very simple is always a source of inspiration.

Might need to get a statue like yours too – it’s so cool

Very thought provoking. I will have to give it some thought. I know when it comes to travel I have some places I’ve yet to see but my big dream is to return home, at where I call home.
thanks

As long as you are working on achieving some of your dreams, Mick. What can you do this year to cross something off? Have you got a SMART plan to make it happen?

Being able to go to as many countries as I can is one of my dreams. Through receiving invitations to participate and conduct seminars in a number of countries in Asia (which is where I’m from), I’ve managed to somehow have a start in this goal. I’m thankful for each opportunity given to me, because I get to experience the beautiful cultures of the countries I visit, and more importantly, I get the chance to share everything I know with other people. I’m also glad because my work helps me in getting closer to achieving this dream.

Hi Julius,

You are very lucky that you are in demand and people are inviting you to other Asian countries – I would definitely take advantage of that! Being so close to other countries makes it so much easier. I’m in Canada and we’re pretty far from Europe and Asia and other continents. I have managed to go to Las Vegas four times though. I love it there :-)

Thanks for your response, Karen. I also believe that our dreams don’t need to be huge ones. They can be small goals we would aim to achieve every week. It always gives a sense of accomplishment when we manage to do something we have planned for no matter how small it is.

I think the first time I saw the Thinker was in the movie, Night of the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, but they portrayed the Thinker in a not-so-thinking-type-of-way. When I look at these pictures that you put up here, the person portrayed looks so peaceful and undisturbed, like he’s in his own world. It’s a really cool feeling and sometimes it’s hard to accomplish being in this state with all the distractions that happen in today’s fast-paced world. I’m really glad you were able to accomplish one of your dreams and cross that off your list. Thanks for sharing this Karen.

Hi Hulbert,

I saw that movie and you’re right, he’s not portrayed as a deep thinker. But, when you see the statue up close and see all the details of his face, you would change your mind. He’s very pensive and obviously in deep thought. It was amazing to see it up close and to see all the other statues by Rodin.

I appreciate you coming by and adding to the community here.
