Are you ready to change your life and need some help on what you can do, day by day, to help build your own empire? Chris Guillebeau (a very successful entrepreneur who I have bought numerous products from myself) starting today has permanently opened his Empire Building Kit (EBK). If you were on his waiting list from his last launch, you are now able to start building your own Empire.
What is the Empire Building Kit?
It’s pretty simple, really. In Chris’ own words:
First, here’s the goal: to help aspiring emperors build a successful lifestyle business in one year by doing at least one thing every day. I define lifestyle business as a project that produces at least $50,000 a year in net income with few (or zero) employees, doing something you love that other people are thrilled to pay for.
My preference is for online businesses that can be run from anywhere, since that’s what I do, but the case studies include all kinds of people doing all kinds of things.
There are two “killer apps” to this project. The first is the collection of no-holds-barred case studies, and the second is the step-by-step, one-year plan. Emperors will get the case studies right away, and the 365 steps, tips, and reminders in daily emails for an entire year.
I’ll have three options for the EBK—one on the budget side for people just getting started (“Emperor-in-Training”), one for experienced entrepreneurs who want to take their business to the next level (“Alexander the Great”) , and one in the middle that I think will serve most people the best (“Hail Caesar!”).
All three empire-building options include:
– Numerous (10+) case studies in a range of formats—video interviews, audio interviews, transcripts, and PDF compilations
– A detailed overview of the lifestyle business. What it is? What should you know right from the beginning? How can you create your own empire like all of the case studies have done?
– Additional instructional videos (with key lessons included in text form as well) dealing with specific topics or common questions
In each case study, I talk with the other entrepreneurs all about money.
Feeling scared to take the plunge? Why not listen to Chris’s inspirational message on change and why you need to overcome your fear? I loved the stories he told in this video during his recent TEDxCMU talk:
In this video, Chris talks about how many people sit around waiting for a permission slip to do something different with their lives, just like kids who wait for a permission slip to get out of class.
But, you don’t need anyone to write you a permission slip. You can write your own permission slip. You can give yourself permission to try something else with your life. You can give yourself permission to face your fears and take control of your life.
I think you need to check out his EBK if you want to take control over our own life and give yourself permission to see what being an entrepreneur is all about.
Even if you don’t end up buying the EBK, you should check out Chris’ other products. There will even be an Unconventional Guide to Freelancing available in a couple of weeks if you want to pursue freelancing.
There’s a money-back guarantee associated with all of Chris’ products, too.
Oh, and just for today, Chris is giving Backyard Biz Profits (60+ page guide all about combining online marketing with local businesses) for FREE when you buy any level of the Empire Building Kit.

Hey Karen,
Thanks for the heads up on this. I know I stumbled across his site about 2 weeks ago and saw it was closed at the time I think. Looks like it’s great stuff right up my alley.
Talk soon!
Hope your family is all coming along through everything after last weekend.
Take care,
Brandon

I do hope you get a chance to check out his great products.
Hi Karen,
Hope all is well.
Thank you for the introduction to Chris. I enjoyed his inspirational talk. Years ago I came to the realization of Chris’ concept of granting yourself permission. My inner child asked, ‘are you sure?’ And, the adult said, ‘duh, what’s taken you so long?’ It’s just evidence to how we can complicate things with unnecessary inner chatter.
So many gems here that are worth sharing. Thank you!

Hi Kim,
Thanks you for your support. I’m doing well on this end and I hope you are, too.
I particularly like the parts in the video where Chris talks about the crocodile being a crocodile (what else do you expect) and that no one can sign your permission slip except for you. You’re so right that we overcomplicate things. I think it’s the nature of the beast because we expect life to be complicated when actually a lot of the time, it’s pretty simple.
Thanks,
Karen
Thanks for this review, Karen. I know a handful of people who’d be truly interested in EBK. I also enjoyed the video a lot.

Great overview Karen. I bought it last time it launched and I think it’s a great product that keeps giving with a new email each day. It gives you a good kick when you need it!

Hi Karen,
What a great product and concept.
Although I am a pretty good self-starter there are many times when an inspirational “kick in the pants” would do me the world of good.
I really enjoyed the video and I will definitely go and check out the Empire Building Kit product from Chris.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention
Best wishes
Welcome Peter,
Oh, Chris can definitely give you the 365 kick in the pants that you need. He’s very inspirational and I hope you enjoy his message (and kicks).
Thanks,
Karen
I was running a blog and trying to document my experience with the empire building kit. After the re-launch I stopped. I grew so frustrated with the lack of recognition for my own dedication and persistence for the product.
For the entire Time of April till may 18 I was talking about it, and listening on Twitter to talk to others. No one was talking. Is was a ghost town. I found 2 mentions in 2 blog posts. I tried talking to others that said they bought it on Twitter but were not talking.
Literally it was like it didn’t exist.
I never started it for the recognition; however I saw Chris promoting other people in his blog a few days before relaunch and on may 18. Other industry people that are in all the interviews. If you were to search for the kit on may 18 I was up to number 2 on google for it’s keywords. Why would he not talk about this? He knew about the site and choose to supress it.
Now, no one is talking about it again except for the 3rd launch. I’m sad that it seems like affiliates are very appreciated from the outside. It’s a decent product but I decided that my energy could be much better spent elsewhere. Helping people through my own sites and products that are way more customer experience driven.
Also I was very sad after the 2nd launch as all the emails started to become simple recaps of the freebie bonus webinar. I am very glad to experience it all though because no product, other than his business forum, has motivated me more – and this is due to the belief that the customer experience can be drastically improved upon.

Hi Scott,
Scott, you sound really young and impressionable. My advice is not to take things so personally and internalize so much.
I’ve bought products from Chris (in fact you and I attended his $100 Biz forum) and I’m also happy to promote his products because not only do I think that he has a great message, but also produces some very useful and motivational materials. But, I’m not really on his radar, which is perfectly okay with me. I do things because I want to do them, not with the intention of what I can get in return.
If you are not satisfied with your experiences, then do something about it. Create a better experience and product perhaps.
Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad to hear that you actually do like the EBK. It’s a young product so hpefully the learning curve will be lessened the next time.
All the best,
Karen
I agree, I try not to internalize it. It’s difficult though when you know it’s on the radar of someone and it seems like there is some weird reason for not mentioning to other readers.
I was looking to enhance the EBK like no one else and constantly track my results and thoughts. This is much more than a 5 min video review on the day of a launch.
Your affiliates are also your customers (usually) and thus, you want to add to the entire experience. Tell me if you created a product and someone created a diary site, a twitter feed with hashtag for the product, and was looking to collaborate with other buyers – you wouldn’t mention this affiliate?
Again though, I did not start this website with intentions of what I would get in return. I didn’t even email Chris asking him to mention it, or for him to check it out. I was ranking so well with it and I am sure he had google alerts set up. He became aware of it well before the May 18th relaunch.
Not having any intentions, you would think I would keep it going then right? That was a tough decision for me to say screw it. I decided I’ll just continue my progress on my own website instead of wasting my time on 2 different sites – especially if it’s not important enough to the creator of the product.
I am in the works of creating the product that I believe is much more than motivation. As I said, the products have motivated me in a different way – one that is to create something aligned with my views, beliefs and values.
I was originally drawn to the message as well and this is why I imagined relationships building. I find that the message is diluted now and it’s unfortunate.

Hi Scott,
That’s great that you are taking what you can from the experience to create your own product that is much more than motivation. That’s my advice – take what you can use from each experience and discard the rest.
Have no expectations of others and you won’t be disappointed as you will be too concerned with your own life to be bothered by anyone else.
Good luck and let me know when your product goes live.
Thanks,
Karen
I am trying to focus on bringing the majority of my websites more content and enhancing the readers visit of course. I really want to build my empire by sharing what I have learned and in addition driving affiliate sites with more traffic based on targeted keyword and lontail phrases and making more sales. It is a lot of work, yes, but it’s mine and I plan to do it. The problem I have is I have read a bizillion books on motivation and yes you can do it, thoughts become things, etc, and I still can’t seem to get my plan in action to the next level. I know this is a slow building business – totally understand that, but getting me to do something everyday is the problem. I get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start…I do have a full time job during the day so this is a project I only do for about 3-4 hours a night and shorter if I can’t get it together that night. That has to be the worst feeling ever. Any thoughts?

Welcome Lisa,
I hear you. I have a full-time job as well and can only do so much in the evenings and on the weekends. I think that we just have to do the best we can with the amount of time we have to devote to our site(s). If you have the motivation, that’s fantastic – maybe you need some tips and techniques now for time-management and for setting priorities. The 80/20 Law is great to determine what you should be focused on and what can be let go.
I don’t think you should be feeling bad if you take a night off. I know I do, all the time. I’m not a machine and do have to get away from the computer sometimes! Why not try writing down the 1-2 things you must do each day, each week and get those out of the way. Other things can fall by the wayside until you are ready to pick them up again. Another suggestion is to outsource some of your tasks – that may help you leap to the next level by not only freeing up some of your time to work on higher priority items, but can give you a fresh perspective.
Hope this helps. Also, know that you are not alone in these feelings.
Karen
Thanks so much Karen, I know there are others out there like me also. I try to tap into my subconscious mind for answers and yes, they do come to me as there will always be an answer, I am glad I have found your blog. Great tips and ideas here.
